Description
A retired database of petroleum well records, now integrated into the Geoscience Australia Borehole Database. It includes header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity, and directional surveys. Data covers offshore and onshore regions, with offshore data being more scientifically complete and onshore data sourced from state geological surveys.
Use Cases
Analyze subsurface reservoir characteristics based on reservoir and facies data.
Conduct regional stratigraphic correlation based on stratigraphy and biostratigraphy data.
Model wellbore trajectories and velocity profiles based on directional and velocity survey data.
Assess hydrocarbon source potential based on organic geochemistry data.
Strengths
Covers both offshore and onshore regions, providing broad geographic scope.
Includes multiple scientific data themes such as biostratigraphy and organic geochemistry.
Offshore data is described as scientifically entered, suggesting a level of curation.
Limitations
The record is retired and superseded, directing users to a new platform.
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown, limiting suitability assessment.
Onshore data is acquired from external state surveys, potentially introducing heterogeneity.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network and state geological surveys.
Collection Method
Scientific data entry for offshore wells; acquisition from external surveys for onshore data.
Freshness
Last updated 2026-06-16 18:13:36.144655; freshness should be verified.
Geography
Offshore and onshore regions of Australia.
This record is retired; the data is now accessed via the Geoscience Australia Portal under the Borehole layer.
