Description
The National Petroleum Wells Database provides header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity, and directional surveys for petroleum wells. It includes data for offshore and onshore regions of Australia, with scientific data entry generally conducted for offshore wells. This record has been retired and superseded by eCat 126310 as of June 2023, with the data now accessible through the Geoscience Australia Portal.
Use Cases
Analyze reservoir characteristics based on reservoir and facies data mentioned in the description.
Study stratigraphic sequences based on stratigraphy data mentioned in the description.
Model subsurface velocity profiles based on velocity and directional survey data mentioned in the description.
Conduct organic geochemical analysis based on organic geochemistry data mentioned in the description.
Strengths
Data covers multiple themes including biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, and reservoir facies.
Includes data for both offshore and onshore regions of Australia.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
