Description
River flood hazard maps for the United Kingdom showing flood extent, depth, and velocity where available. The data includes three probability scenarios: a high-probability 10-year return period, a medium-probability 200-year return period, and a low-probability 1000-year return period plus a 200-year return period with a UKCP09 high emissions climate change scenario for the 2080s. The dataset was produced by the Government Digital Service.
Use Cases
Model flood insurance risk based on flood extent and depth layers.
Plan infrastructure resilience based on projected flood velocities under climate change.
Assess land-use suitability using high, medium, and low probability flood return periods.
Validate hydrological models using observed event data referenced in the high-probability scenario.
Strengths
Includes three distinct flood probability scenarios (10-year, 200-year, 1000-year return periods).
Integrates a specific climate change projection (UKCP09 high emissions 95%ile for the 2080s).
Contains multiple hazard layers where available, including flood extent, depth, and velocity.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and spatial resolution are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
