Description
Roads captured at 1:1,000,000 scale for the Yukon and surrounding area. Each road's validity was determined by comparison to the National Road Network and Yukon orthoimagery, with new roads generalized from the NRN and old roads attributed out. The dataset is distributed by the Government of Yukon.
Use Cases
Validate road geometry and existence using the comparison results against the National Road Network.
Generalize new road features from the National Road Network source for regional mapping.
Attribute and analyze old roads that were flagged out during the validation process.
Perform spatial analysis on road networks captured at the 1:1,000,000 scale for the Yukon region.
Strengths
Road features validated against authoritative sources: the National Road Network and Yukon orthoimagery.
Spatial data captured at a consistent 1:1,000,000 scale.
Includes a process for generalizing new roads and attributing old ones.
Limitations
Specific row count, column details, and sample data are unavailable.
The 1:1,000,000 scale is suitable for small-scale mapping but lacks detail for high-resolution analysis.
Provenance
Source
Government of Yukon, derived from Digital Chart of the World data and the National Road Network.
Collection Method
Roads were compared to the National Road Network and orthoimagery to determine validity; new roads were generalized, old roads were attributed out.
