Description
NASA HEASARC provides a catalog of 3,405 X-ray sources from the ROSAT All Sky Survey within the 6dF Galaxy Survey area. The catalog includes optical spectra for 2,224 sources, with reliable redshifts for 1,715 objects, primarily quasi-stellar objects and active galaxies. This table was created in April 2010 based on the reference paper.
Use Cases
Classifying AGN types (e.g., type 1 vs. type 2) based on optical spectra and redshift data.
Investigating the correlation between X-ray flux and radio detection rates mentioned in the description.
Analyzing the redshift distribution and median redshift (z = 0.16) of X-ray selected AGN.
Identifying optically faint, low-redshift compact objects that deviate from general trends.
Comparing Southern hemisphere sources with Northern hemisphere samples like the RBSC-NVSS.
Strengths
Contains 3,405 X-ray sources with a defined count-rate limit of 0.05 ct s⁻¹.
Includes optical spectra for 2,224 sources (65% of the sample) and reliable redshifts for 1,715.
Provides a large set of homogeneous optical spectra ideal for comparative studies of AGN.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the survey area (Declination < 0 degrees, |b| > 10 degrees).
