Description
OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, acquired by the Rosetta spacecraft from 2016-05 31 to 2016-06-28. This V3.0 dataset from NASA includes uncalibrated data in DN units, with updates addressing peer review feedback and improved handling of missing packets. Documentation covers bandpass filters, image quality maps for shutter and readout issues, and a user guide with FAQs.
Use Cases
Comet surface morphology analysis based on uncalibrated image data
Calibration pipeline development and testing based on raw DN units and documented quality issues
Temporal analysis of cometary activity during the ROSETTA EXTENSION 2 mission phase
Comparative studies with other mission phases using the updated V3.0 data structure
Strengths
Data is version V3.0, incorporating corrections from external peer reviews in July and October 2018
Includes updated documentation with a section on FAQs and image data quality
Image headers contain an updated DATA_QUALITY_ID keyword for improved metadata
Ancillary files include a document on bandpass filter characteristics
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Data is uncalibrated (in DN units), requiring significant processing for scientific analysis
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
