Description
Uncalibrated image data from the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera aboard the Rosetta spacecraft, targeting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. NASA produced this CODMAC level 2 dataset, covering observations from September 26 to October 1, 2016. Version 3.0 incorporates corrections from 2018 peer reviews and includes updated documentation on data quality and filter bandpass.
Use Cases
Process and calibrate raw image data based on the uncalibrated DN units and updated ancillary files.
Study comet 67P's surface features and activity based on the narrow-angle camera imagery.
Assess image quality for scientific analysis based on the documented shutter backtravel and readout issues.
Compare data versions for consistency based on the version 3.0 updates superseding previous deliveries.
Strengths
Data is from a specific, high-profile space mission (Rosetta) targeting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Dataset version 3.0 includes corrections from external peer reviews conducted in July and October 2018.
Documentation has been updated to include a FAQ section and details on image data quality.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is uncalibrated (CODMAC level 2), requiring significant processing for scientific use.
