Description
NASA's Rosetta-ORBITER 67P OSINAC 2 PRL-MTP009 EDR V3.0 dataset contains uncalibrated image data from the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera. The data was acquired during the PRELANDING mission phase from October 24 to November 21, 2014, with the prime target being comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This version V3.0 includes corrections from 2018 peer reviews, updated documentation, and improved handling of image data quality.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface morphology and activity based on narrow-angle camera imagery.
Developing calibration algorithms for raw digital number (DN) unit image data.
Studying temporal changes on a comet's nucleus during a pre-landing observation period.
Validating image processing techniques for data with documented shutter and readout issues.
Strengths
Data covers a defined 28-day observation period from 2014-10-24 to 2014-11-21.
Version V3.0 incorporates corrections from external peer reviews conducted in July and October 2018.
Documentation includes a user guide with FAQ and image data quality sections, and a bandpass filter document.
Limitations
Data is uncalibrated (CODMAC level 2) in digital number (DN) units, requiring further processing for scientific analysis.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
