Description
OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, radiometrically calibrated in W/m^2/sr/nm. This version 3.0 dataset from NASA covers the prelanding mission phase from May 7 to June 4, 2014. It supersedes previous versions with corrections from 2018 peer reviews, updated documentation, and improved handling of image quality issues.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface morphology and features based on calibrated narrow-angle images.
Studying temporal changes in comet activity during the prelanding approach phase mentioned in the description.
Validating radiometric calibration techniques for space-based camera systems.
Developing image processing algorithms to handle data quality issues like shutter backtravel and missing packets described in the update notes.
Strengths
Data is radiometrically calibrated to physical units (W/m^2/sr/nm), enabling quantitative analysis.
Version 3.0 incorporates corrections from external peer reviews conducted in July and October 2018.
Includes specific documentation on bandpass filters and an updated user guide with FAQ and data quality sections.
Covers a defined temporal range from 2014-05-07T12:48:00.000 to 2014-06-04T10:49:59.000.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and total file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific 2014 prelanding mission phase.
