Description
From August 1 to September 2, 2014, this dataset contains radiometrically calibrated image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, acquired by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft during its prelanding phase. The data is provided by NASA and is calibrated to units of W/m^2/sr/nm. This version 3.0 includes corrections from peer reviews, updated documentation, and improved handling of image quality issues.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface morphology and features based on calibrated narrow-angle imagery.
Studying cometary activity and outgassing patterns using radiometric intensity data.
Validating and improving image processing pipelines for spaceborne instruments based on the documented quality flags.
Conducting temporal analysis of comet evolution during the prelanding mission phase.
Strengths
Data is radiometrically calibrated to physical units (W/m^2/sr/nm), enabling quantitative analysis.
Includes specific quality documentation for issues like shutter backtravel and readout problems.
Version 3.0 incorporates corrections from external peer reviews conducted in 2018.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
