Description
From 2016-02-09 to 2016-03-08, this dataset contains processed image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, acquired by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The data is solar stray light corrected, radiometrically calibrated, and geometrically distortion corrected, presented in reflectance units. This version V1.0 is the first release from NASA, following an external peer review in October 2018.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface morphology and geological features based on calibrated reflectance imagery.
Study temporal changes in comet activity and surface brightness during the specified mission phase.
Validate or develop image processing algorithms for solar stray light correction and geometric distortion.
Train machine learning models for automated feature detection on comet surfaces using the processed images.
Strengths
Data is processed to CODMAC level 4, indicating solar stray light correction, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion correction.
Covers a specific 28-day period from 2016-02 09 to 2016-03-08 during the ROSETTA EXTENSION 1 mission phase.
Target is clearly defined as comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko 1 (1969 R1).
Dataset version V1.0 is documented as the first version following an external peer review.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics and image metadata must be inferred after download.
Row count and file formats are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for specific tasks.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality and completeness require manual inspection after download.
