Description
NASA's ROSETTA-ORBITER OSINAC dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected image data from the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera. The data, in units of W/m^2/sr/nm, was acquired during the PRELANDING mission phase from 2014-05-07 to 2014-06-04, targeting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This version V1.0 is the first version, corrected after an October 2018 external peer review.
Use Cases
Analyzing cometary surface morphology and albedo based on calibrated radiance values.
Training computer vision models for feature detection on extraterrestrial bodies using corrected image data.
Validating photometric models of comet nuclei based on stray light corrected observations.
Conducting temporal analysis of cometary activity during the pre-landing approach phase.
Strengths
Data has undergone multiple processing steps: solar stray light correction, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion correction.
Covers a specific temporal range from 2014-05-07T12:48:00.000 to 2014-06 04T10:49:59.000 during a critical mission phase.
Version V1.0 represents a peer-reviewed dataset, corrected after an October 2018 external review.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
