Description
Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is the prime target of this image dataset from the Rosetta spacecraft's OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera. The dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometrically calibrated, and geometrically distortion corrected image data in reflectance units, covering the period from 2014-07-02 to 2014-08-01. This version V1.0 is the first release of the dataset, produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and corrected after an external peer review in October 2018.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface albedo and reflectance properties based on the calibrated reflectance units.
Studying the morphology and features of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko based on the geometric distortion corrected images.
Conducting temporal analysis of comet activity during the prelanding mission phase based on the July-August 2014 time range.
Validating image processing pipelines for solar stray light correction based on the described data preparation.
Strengths
Data is processed to CODMAC level 4, indicating solar stray light correction, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion correction.
Covers a defined one-month observation period from 2014-07-02 to 2014-08 01.
Dataset version V1.0 has undergone an external peer review process as noted in the description.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
