Description
NASA's Rosetta spacecraft OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera captured radiometric calibrated image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The dataset covers the period from September 2 to September 26, 2016, and contains images calibrated in units of W/m^2/sr/nm. This version 3.0 includes corrections from external reviews and improvements to calibration and documentation.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface brightness and albedo based on radiometric calibration
Studying temporal changes in comet activity during the September 2016 observation period
Validating and improving image processing algorithms for spacecraft cameras based on documented calibration improvements
Comparing comet 67P features with other celestial bodies using calibrated spectral data
Strengths
Data is radiometric calibrated to physical units (W/m^2/sr/nm)
Version 3.0 includes corrections from July and October 2018 external peer reviews
Documentation includes a user guide with FAQ and image quality sections
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
