Description
From 2016-01-12 to 2016-02-09, this dataset contains processed image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko acquired by the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The data has been corrected for stray light, radiometrically calibrated, and geometrically resampled, with measurements in W/m^2/sr/nm. It is a CODMAC level 4 dataset from NASA, representing the first version (V1.0) released after an external peer review in September 2019.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface morphology and changes based on calibrated, distortion-corrected images.
Study comet activity and outgassing processes based on radiometric measurements in specific spectral units.
Validate or develop image processing algorithms for stray-light correction based on the described calibration pipeline.
Conduct temporal analysis of comet 67P during the Rosetta mission's extension phase based on the specified date range.
Strengths
Data is corrected for multiple instrumental effects including solar and in-field stray light.
Images are radiometrically calibrated to physical units (W/m^2/sr/nm).
Dataset has undergone an external peer review process as noted in the description.
Covers a defined period from 2016-01 12 to 2016-02-09 during a specific mission phase (EXTENSION 1).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file formats are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
