Description
Calibrated image data from the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft, covering the period from 2016-06-28 to 2016-07-26. The dataset contains solar stray-light corrected, in-field stray-light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, with units in W/m^2/sr/nm. This V1.0 version is the first release of this dataset from NASA, following an external peer review in September 2019.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface features and morphology based on calibrated, high-resolution imagery.
Studying temporal changes in comet activity and outgassing based on a month-long observation period.
Validating radiometric correction and stray-light removal algorithms for space instrument data.
Training machine learning models for automated feature detection on planetary bodies.
Strengths
Data is corrected for multiple instrumental effects: solar stray-light, in-field stray-light, radiometry, and geometric distortion.
Covers a defined one-month observation period from 2016-06 28 to 2016-07-26.
Version V1.0 indicates a peer-reviewed, stable release following external review in September 2019.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics and image metadata must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale processing.
Data is from a specific, historical mission phase; temporal coverage is limited to one month in 2016.
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
