Description
OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, acquired from 2016-06 28 to 2016-07-26. The dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected image data in reflectance units. This version V1.0 is the first version, produced by NASA after an external peer review in October 2018.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface albedo and reflectance properties based on the calibrated reflectance units.
Studying temporal changes on the comet's surface based on the one-month observation period.
Developing image processing pipelines for spacecraft camera data based on the described corrections for stray light and geometric distortion.
Training machine learning models for feature detection on extraterrestrial bodies based on the high-resolution comet imagery.
Strengths
Data is processed to CODMAC level 4, indicating a high level of calibration and correction.
Images are corrected for solar stray light, radiometrically calibrated, and geometrically resampled.
Covers a defined one-month observation period from 2016-06-28 to 2016-07-26.
Dataset versioning is clear, with this being the first version (V1.0) following an external peer review.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count, file formats, and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
