Description
NASA's Rosetta spacecraft OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera captured calibrated image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected images in W/m^2/sr/nm, covering the period from 2016-08-09 to 2016-09-02. This is the first version (V1.0) of this CODMAC level 4 dataset, corrected after an external peer review in October 2018.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface brightness and albedo variations based on radiometric calibrated image data.
Studying comet nucleus morphology and feature evolution based on geometric distortion corrected imagery.
Modeling solar stray light effects in spaceborne camera systems based on the correction methodology.
Validating photometric models of cometary activity using calibrated data in specific spectral units.
Strengths
Data is processed to CODMAC level 4, indicating radiometric calibration and geometric correction.
Images are corrected for solar stray light, a known artifact in space imaging.
Coverage spans a specific 24-day period in 2016, providing a temporal snapshot of the comet.
Dataset version (V1.0) reflects corrections made after an external peer review process.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific mission phase and observation window.
