Description
NASA's Rosetta spacecraft OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera captured calibrated image data of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from September 2 to September 26, 2016. This dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected images in reflectance units. It is the first version (V1.0) of this dataset, corrected after an October 2018 external peer review.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface reflectance patterns based on calibrated reflectance units.
Studying geometric features of comet 67P based on distortion-corrected images.
Investigating temporal changes on the comet's surface during the September 2016 observation period.
Validating image processing algorithms for spaceborne cameras based on the described correction steps (solar stray light, radiometric, geometric).
Strengths
Data is corrected for solar stray light, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion.
Images are normalized to reflectance units, facilitating comparative analysis.
Dataset covers a specific 24-day observation period from 2016-09-02 to 2016-09-26.
Dataset version V1.0 incorporates corrections from an October 2018 external peer review.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
