Description
OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, corrected for stray light and radiometrically calibrated. The dataset contains processed image data in reflectance units, acquired by the Rosetta spacecraft during its extension 3 mission phase from September 26 to October 1, 2016. This V1.0 version is the first release from NASA, following an external peer review in September 2019.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface features and morphology based on calibrated reflectance imagery.
Study temporal changes on the comet's surface during the specified mission phase.
Validate or develop image processing algorithms for stray-light and radiometric correction in space imagery.
Support educational or public outreach projects with real, processed images from the Rosetta mission.
Strengths
Data is corrected for solar and in-field stray light, radiometrically calibrated, and geometrically distortion corrected.
Covers a specific, defined time range from 2016-09-26T06:40:00.000 to 2016-10-01T00:00:00.000.
Dataset is versioned (V1.0) and has undergone an external peer review process.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
