Description
OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera image data from the Rosetta spacecraft's EXTENSION 3 mission phase, covering the period from 2016-09 26T06:40:00.000 to 2016-10-01T00:00:00.000. The dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, measured in W/m^2/sr/nm. This V1.0 version is the first release from NASA, corrected after an October 2018 external peer review.
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface brightness and activity based on calibrated radiance values.
Studying temporal changes in comet 67P's coma and nucleus based on images from a specific mission phase.
Developing or validating image correction algorithms for solar stray light based on the described processing steps.
Conducting photometric studies of cometary features based on radiometrically calibrated data.
Strengths
Data is processed to CODMAC level 4, indicating a high standard of calibration and correction.
Images are corrected for solar stray light, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion, suggesting a refined product.
Covers a specific, defined observation period from 2016-09-26 to 2016-10-01.
Version V1.0 indicates a formal release following an external peer review process in October 2018.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale processing.
Data is from a specific, short time range in 2016, which may limit analysis of longer-term comet behavior.
