Description
NASA's CODMAC level 4 dataset contains solar stray light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected image data from the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The data, measured in W/m^2/sr/nm, covers the period from 2014-01-20 to 2014-05-07, targeting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This V1.0 version is the first release following an external peer review in October 2018.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface morphology and activity based on calibrated, stray-light-corrected images.
Study temporal changes in comet brightness and features during the prelanding mission phase.
Validate geometric correction and radiometric calibration models for space instrument data.
Perform photometric analysis of the comet nucleus using the provided W/m^2/sr/nm units.
Strengths
Data has undergone multiple corrections for solar stray light, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion.
Covers a defined observation period from 2014-01-20T10:00:00.000 to 2014-05-07T12:47:59.000.
Dataset is a CODMAC level 4 product, indicating a peer-reviewed, calibrated data record.
Produced by NASA, an authoritative source for space science data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific 2014 prelanding mission phase.
