Description
Solar stray-light corrected, radiometrically calibrated image data in reflectance units acquired by the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The dataset covers the period from 2014-05-07 to 2014-06-04, with the prime target being comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This version V1.0 is the first version of this dataset, produced by NASA.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface albedo and reflectance properties based on the calibrated reflectance units.
Study the morphology and features of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko based on the corrected image data.
Train or validate computer vision models for celestial object detection based on the spacecraft-acquired imagery.
Perform temporal analysis of comet activity during the pre-landing mission phase based on the specified date range.
Strengths
Data has undergone multiple corrections including solar stray-light, in-field stray-light, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion correction.
Covers a defined temporal period from 2014-05-07T12:48:00.000 to 2014-06 04T10:49:59.000.
Dataset version V1.0 is identified as the first version following an external peer review in September 2019.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
