Description
NASA's CODMAC level 4 dataset contains solar stray-light corrected, radiometric calibrated, and geometric distortion corrected image data from the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The data covers the period from 2014-08-01 to 2014-09-02, targeting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This V1.0 version is the first release, corrected after a 2019 external peer review.
Use Cases
Analyze comet surface morphology based on calibrated, high-resolution imagery.
Study temporal changes in comet activity during the pre-landing mission phase.
Validate or develop image processing algorithms for stray-light and radiometric correction.
Conduct photometric studies of the comet nucleus using data in physical units (W/m^2/sr/nm).
Strengths
Data is corrected for multiple instrumental effects: solar stray-light, in-field stray-light, radiometric calibration, and geometric distortion.
Covers a defined one-month observation period from 2014-08-01T10:00:00.000 to 2014-09-02T09:59:59.000.
Data is provided in physical radiometric units (W/m^2/sr/nm), enabling quantitative analysis.
Dataset is versioned (V1.0) and has undergone an external peer review process as of September 2019.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset's specific file formats are not listed in the provided metadata.
