Description
NASA's CODMAC level 4 dataset contains solar and in-field stray-light corrected, radiometric and geometric distortion calibrated image data from the OSIRIS Wide Angle Camera on the Rosetta spacecraft. The data, in units of W/m^2/sr/nm, were acquired during the PRELANDING mission phase from October 24 to November 21, 2014, with comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko as the prime target. This V1.0 version is the first release following a September 2019 PSA/PDS external peer review.
Use Cases
Analyze cometary surface morphology based on calibrated wide-angle camera images.
Study temporal changes in comet 67P's activity during the pre-landing phase.
Perform photometric analysis based on radiometric calibrated data in W/m^2/sr/nm.
Validate geometric correction models for spacecraft imaging instruments.
Compare cometary features using stray-light corrected image data.
Strengths
Data is calibrated to CODMAC level 4, indicating processed and corrected scientific data.
Images are radiometric calibrated with units of W/m^2/sr/nm.
Coverage spans a defined period from 2014-10-24 to 2014-11-21.
Dataset has undergone an external peer review (PSA/PDS) in September 2019.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
