Description
Raw magnetometer data from the ROSETTA orbiter's RPCMAG instrument, collected during the EXTENDED MISSION PHASE 2 near comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The dataset covers observations from April 6 to June 29, 2016 and is provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This version, V9.0, includes updates to documentation and quality flagging for consistency with other data releases.
Use Cases
Analyzing magnetic field variations near a comet based on raw magnetometer readings.
Studying the interaction between the solar wind and a comet's coma based on magnetic disturbance sources.
Calibrating magnetometer data using the improved sensor temperature model mentioned in the description.
Assessing data quality for scientific use based on the improved quality flagging system.
Strengths
Data is from a specific, well-documented mission phase (EXTENDED MISSION PHASE 2) from April 6 to June 29, 2016.
Version V9.0 includes an improved sensor temperature model and more detailed documentation about magnetic disturbance sources.
Dataset is part of a coordinated release where RAW data has been updated for consistency with CALIBRATED and RESAMPLED datasets.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
