Description
From August 1, 2014, to September 2, 2014, this dataset contains digital numbers from the VIRTIS instrument telemetry packages aboard the Rosetta spacecraft during its pre-landing phase near comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. The data release version 2.0 was produced by a fixed EGSE software, correcting an issue in the old version that produced incomplete products. The dataset is provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Use Cases
Calibrate and validate VIRTIS instrument readings based on the fixed EGSE software version.
Analyze spectral data of comet 67P's nucleus and coma during the pre-landing approach phase.
Study temporal changes in comet activity during the August-September 2014 observation window.
Process raw digital numbers (DN) from telemetry packages for scientific product generation.
Strengths
Data covers a specific, defined mission phase from 2014-08-01 to 2014-09-02.
Version 2.0 addresses a known software issue that previously produced incomplete data products.
Originates from the authoritative Rosetta mission operated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality and structure require manual inspection after download.
