Description
The Rosetta mission's OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera captured images of comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko during its prelanding phase. This dataset contains those images from September 2 to September 23, 2014, and is version 2.0, which merges two previous dataset deliveries. The data was provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Use Cases
Analyzing comet surface morphology and geological features based on the described high-resolution imagery.
Studying temporal changes on a comet's surface during the described prelanding observation period.
Training machine learning models for crater or feature detection on cometary bodies using the provided images.
Validating orbital and navigational data from the Rosetta mission by correlating with the acquired imagery.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 21-day observation period from 2014-09-02 to 2014-09-23.
This is version 2.0, which merges two previous dataset versions for a continuous time series.
Imagery is from a dedicated scientific instrument (OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera) on a major interplanetary mission.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific 2014 observation window.
