Description
816 objects with blazar-like properties were compiled via cross-correlation of large radio and X-ray surveys. The catalog, created by NASA HEASARC in 2007, includes 510 confirmed blazars and 173 new identifications, representing about 10% of all known blazars at the time. It was built in preparation for AGILE, GLAST, and Planck missions to study multi-frequency characteristics.
Use Cases
Identify new blazar candidates for follow-up observations based on radio/X-ray/optical matches.
Study the statistical properties of blazars based on spectral slopes (alpha_ox, alpha_ro) and flux ratios.
Select potential targets for GeV-TeV gamma-ray observations based on high F_X/F_r ratios.
Validate automated selection methods for extragalactic sources using cross-correlated survey data.
Strengths
Contains 816 candidate objects with 510 confirmed blazars, demonstrating a high selection efficiency.
Includes 173 new blazar identifications, expanding the known population by approximately 10%.
Provides multi-wavelength data per object, including redshift, magnitudes, radio/X-ray fluxes, and spectral classifications.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Last updated 2026-03-13 18:16:17.307461; freshness should be verified as the underlying data is from 2007.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale analysis.
