Description
July 1994 data collected from the CEFAS research vessel RV Corystes using a lowered CTD rosette system. The dataset contains high-resolution profiles of pressure, temperature, and conductivity from the European Shelf and Iberian Abyssal Plain, with salinity derivable from conductivity. Data was collected by the Government Digital Service.
Use Cases
Calculate ocean salinity profiles based on the conductivity data and UNESCO formulations.
Analyze vertical water column structure based on the high-resolution pressure and temperature profiles.
Calibrate or validate satellite-derived sea surface temperature data based on in-situ temperature measurements.
Study water mass characteristics and mixing based on the combined temperature and salinity data.
Strengths
Data is described as high-resolution, suggesting detailed vertical sampling.
Covers specific geographic areas: the European Shelf and Iberian Abyssal Plain.
Collected using a standard lowered CTD rosette system, a recognized methodology.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
Provenance
Source
Government Digital Service, likely originating from CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science).
Collection Method
Collected using a lowered CTD rosette system from a stationary research vessel, with bottle samples taken for calibration.
Time Range
July 1994.
Freshness
Data is from a specific cruise in July 1994; historical dataset.
Geography
European Shelf and Iberian Abyssal Plain.
