Description
Low-resolution Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) data collected from the CEFAS research vessel RV Corystes in July 1997. The data broadly covers the European Shelf and the Iberian Abyssal Plain, collected using a lowered CTD rosette system while the vessel was stationary. Water samples were taken for calibration, and the dataset likely contains core parameters like pressure, temperature, and conductivity, from which salinity can be derived.
Use Cases
Analyzing historical water column profiles based on pressure, temperature, and conductivity data.
Calibrating modern salinity calculations using the UNESCO 1978/1983 formulations mentioned in the description.
Studying the methodology of bottle sampling and up-cast data collection described for CTD systems.
Strengths
Data collected from a dedicated CEFAS research cruise, suggesting controlled measurement conditions.
Includes calibration samples from water bottles fired at specific depths, which may improve data accuracy.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
