Description
CEFAS research cruises collected this oceanographic data using a lowered CTD rosette system while vessels were stationary. The data broadly covers the European Shelf and the Iberian Abyssal Plain, with profiles from the surface to near the sea bed. Parameters likely include pressure, temperature, and conductivity, with salinity calculated using UNESCO formulations, and later cruises may include fluorometer and light sensor data.
Use Cases
Calculate salinity profiles based on conductivity, temperature, and pressure data.
Analyze vertical water column structure from surface-to-bed profiles.
Calibrate sensor readings using water sample data collected on the up cast.
Study spatial patterns of oceanographic parameters across the European Shelf.
Strengths
Data collection followed a standardized methodology using a lowered CTD rosette system.
Coverage includes the broad European Shelf and the Iberian Abyssal Plain.
Salinity is calculated using established UNESCO 1978/1983 formulations.
Limitations
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The exact sensor configuration and parameters vary between cruises.
