Description
European Shelf and Iberian Abyssal Plain oceanographic data collected by CEFAS research cruises. The data were gathered using a lowered CTD rosette system while the vessel was stationary, capturing profiles from the surface to near the seabed. Parameters likely include pressure, temperature, conductivity, and in later years, fluorometry and optical measurements.
Use Cases
Calculate water salinity based on conductivity data using UNESCO formulations.
Analyze vertical oceanographic profiles for temperature and pressure structure.
Calibrate sensor readings using water samples collected from bottle firings.
Study spatial variability of marine properties across the European Shelf.
Strengths
Data collection follows a standardized lowered CTD rosette system methodology.
Profiles are designed to be clean, with downcast data intended for analysis.
Description specifies coverage of the European Shelf and Iberian Abyssal Plain.
Limitations
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
Provenance
Source
CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) research cruises.
Collection Method
Collected using a lowered CTD rosette system on station, with bottle samples for calibration.
