Description
372 files totalling 119 GB of raw bathymetry and backscatter data, plus 241 files totalling 269 GB of watercolumn backscatter data, collected by the RV Investigator in May-June 2018. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to survey shipping routes in Bass Strait near Wilson's Promontory. Data are stored by the Australian Ocean Data Network in raw, processed, and gridded formats.
Use Cases
Create high-resolution seafloor maps based on processed bathymetry grids.
Analyze seafloor composition based on backscatter information.
Model underwater acoustic propagation based on watercolumn backscatter data.
Support maritime navigation safety based on surveyed shipping routes.
Strengths
Data volume is substantial, with 119 GB for bathymetry/backscatter and 269 GB for watercolumn data.
Processing steps are documented, including motion correction, tide correction, and outlier removal.
Data is available in multiple formats, including raw (.all, .wcd), processed line data (.gsf, ASCII), and final grids (GeoTIFF).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to the single voyage.
