Description
23 raw data files totalling 11.1 GB of multibeam echosounder data collected during a 2018 research voyage. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII system acquired seafloor bathymetry, backscatter, and watercolumn backscatter data on RV Investigator voyage IN2018_V04, which studied iron inputs in the East Australian Current extension. Data are stored by the Australian Ocean Data Network in raw, processed, and gridded formats.
Use Cases
Generate high-resolution seafloor bathymetric maps based on the processed geotiff grids.
Analyze seafloor composition and texture using the backscatter information.
Study water column features and scattering layers using the watercolumn backscatter data.
Conduct marine habitat mapping by integrating bathymetry and backscatter layers.
Strengths
Data includes 11.1 GB of raw files, providing substantial detail for analysis.
Bathymetry data is corrected for motion, position, and sound velocity, indicating quality processing.
Processed data is available in multiple formats (GSF, ASCII, GeoTIFF) for different applications.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
