Description
East of Tasmania and around Freycinet Marine Park were surveyed by the RV Investigator voyage IN2021_E02 between November 20 and 28, 2021. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder collected seafloor bathymetry, backscatter, and watercolumn backscatter data, totalling 51.9 GB across 62 raw files. Data were processed with sound velocity, tide, motion, and position corrections by CSIRO.
Use Cases
Map seafloor bathymetry based on processed multibeam data.
Analyze seafloor composition based on backscatter intensity data.
Study watercolumn acoustic properties based on watercolumn backscatter data.
Calibrate marine survey equipment based on the voyage's described testing procedures.
Strengths
Data includes 12.2 GB of raw bathymetry/backscatter and 39.7 GB of watercolumn backscatter.
Processed data has had motion, position, tide corrections applied and outliers removed.
Data acquisition used a specific echosounder with a nominal frequency range of 40-100 kHz.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
