Description
Southeast Australian marine ecosystem data collected by the RV Investigator between June 28 and July 30, 2023, departing from and returning to Hobart. The archive contains raw data from over 40 instruments, including acoustic profilers, greenhouse gas analyzers, plankton samplers, echosounders, and environmental DNA collectors. The CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure Information and Data Centre curates the data, with public access via the MNF Data Trawler.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean currents and water column structure based on Lowered ADCP and CTD data
Analyzing marine plankton community composition based on Continuous Plankton Recorder and Multiple Plankton Sampler data
Studying atmospheric-ocean gas exchange based on Greenhouse Gas Analyser and pCO2 measurements
Mapping seafloor topography based on Multibeam Echosounder and Sub-bottom Profiler data
Assessing marine biodiversity and wildlife based on Environmental DNA, trawl, and wildlife observation data
Strengths
Data collected from a focused 33-day research voyage with a clear scientific objective
Archive includes raw data from over 40 distinct instruments covering physical, chemical, and biological oceanography
Permanent archive maintained by CSIRO with documented access pathways for participants and the public
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count and dataset scale are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
