Description
October 10 to November 14, 2025, the RV Investigator voyage IN2025_V06 collected 41 CTD deployments in the Coral Sea Marine Park. The data, processed and archived by CSIRO's National Collections and Marine Infrastructure, includes measurements from a Sea-Bird SBE911 CTD unit and auxiliary sensors for parameters like dissolved oxygen, fluorescence, and turbidity. Quality control was applied, with final calibration standard deviations reported for conductivity and dissolved oxygen.
Use Cases
Modeling deep-sea biodiversity patterns based on physical and chemical oceanographic parameters.
Analyzing water column structure and oceanographic fronts using binned pressure, temperature, and salinity data.
Studying phytoplankton dynamics based on chlorophyll and fluorescence sensor readings.
Assessing water clarity and particulate matter using transmissometer and turbidity data.
Calibrating or validating biogeochemical models using the reported dissolved oxygen measurements.
Strengths
Data from 41 separate CTD deployments provides spatial and temporal coverage of the study area.
Underwent automated quality control to remove spikes and out-of-range values.
Calibration accuracy is quantified, with a conductivity standard deviation of 0.0025203 PSU and dissolved oxygen SD of 0.88132 μM.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The final conductivity calibration standard deviation is noted as marginally outside the target of 0.002 PSU.
Row count and dataset scale are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
