Description
122 GB of raw multibeam echosounder data and 193 GB of watercolumn data were collected during the RV Investigator voyage IN2026_V01, titled 'Cook Ice Ecosystems and Sediments (COOKIES).' The voyage, operated by CSIRO, took place between January 02 and February 25, 2026, departing from and returning to Hobart. Data are stored in .kmall and .kmwcd formats and have been processed with motion correction, GPS tide application, and outlier removal.
Use Cases
Map seafloor bathymetry based on processed .kmall data corrected for motion and position.
Analyze water column backscatter features using the .kmwcd format data.
Study sediment distribution and ice ecosystem interactions in the Southern Ocean based on the voyage's scientific focus.
Validate or apply oceanographic models using the 12 kHz frequency sonar data with applied sound velocity profiles.
Strengths
Data volume is substantial with 122 GB of raw bathymetry/backscatter data and 193 GB of watercolumn data.
Processing steps including motion correction, GPS tide application using the EGM2008 model, and outlier removal are documented.
The dataset has a precise temporal scope from January 02 to February 25, 2026.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Freshness should be verified; last updated metadata is from 2026-06-13.
