Description
122 GB of raw multibeam echosounder data and 193 GB of watercolumn data were collected during the RV Investigator voyage IN2026_V01. The voyage, titled 'Cook Ice Ecosystems and Sediments (COOKIES),' took place from January 02 to February 25, 2026, departing from and returning to Hobart. Data are stored in .kmall and .kmwcd formats at CSIRO.
Use Cases
Generate high-resolution seafloor bathymetry maps based on the 1x1 degree angular resolution EM124 data.
Analyze water column backscatter for pelagic scattering layers based on the .kmwcd format data.
Study sediment distribution and seabed composition using processed backscatter intensity data.
Model oceanographic processes in the Cook Ice Shelf region using the spatially and temporally referenced data.
Strengths
Data includes both bathymetry (122 GB) and water column (193 GB) components.
Bathymetry data is corrected for motion, position, and GPS tide using the EGM2008 model.
Sound velocity profiles were applied during acquisition, and processed data has had outliers removed.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data freshness should be verified; last updated metadata is from 2026-06-16.
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to the specific voyage track.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Collected via EM124 multibeam echosounder aboard RV Investigator.
