Description
Australian waters were surveyed during the RV Investigator voyage IN2026_V01, titled 'Cook Ice Ecosystems and Sediments (COOKIES)', between January 02 and February 25, 2026. The dataset contains 11.7 GB of raw bathymetry and backscatter data and 58.1 GB of watercolumn backscatter data, collected using an EM2040MK2 multibeam echosounder. Data are stored in .kmall and .kmwcd formats and have been processed for motion, position, tide, and outliers.
Use Cases
Generate high-resolution seafloor maps based on the bathymetry data.
Analyze sediment types and seafloor composition based on backscatter intensity.
Study water column acoustic features based on the watercolumn backscatter data.
Model underwater topography for navigation or habitat mapping based on the processed bathymetry.
Strengths
High-resolution angular resolution of 0.4 by 0.7 degrees from the EM2040MK2 echosounder.
Data volume totals 69.8 GB (11.7 GB raw + 58.1 GB watercolumn), indicating substantial coverage.
Data has been processed with sound velocity profiles, motion correction, GPS tide application, and outlier removal.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
