Description
Over 6 million sources, including approximately 150,000 evolved stars and 50,000 young stellar objects, were revealed by the Spitzer Space Telescope's SAGE survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration produced this catalog, which contains multi-epoch IRAC data for sources detected in both epochs, providing averaged fluxes and variability indices. The dataset was last updated on March 13, 2026.
Use Cases
Analyzing stellar variability based on multi-epoch infrared flux measurements.
Studying the lifecycle of observable matter in a galaxy based on identified evolved stars and young stellar objects.
Modeling the physical processes of the interstellar medium based on column density data.
Comparing source properties between the stricter catalog and the more inclusive archive based on described signal-to-noise and neighbor exclusion criteria.
Strengths
Contains data for over 6 million astronomical sources.
Includes approximately 150,000 evolved stars and 50,000 young stellar objects.
Provides averaged fluxes and variability indices for each IRAC band from multi-epoch observations.
Uses a defined signal-to-noise threshold (e.g., >10 for the 8.0um band) for catalog inclusion.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
