Description
The Large Magellanic Cloud was surveyed by the Spitzer Space Telescope's SAGE Legacy Project to trace the life cycle of observable matter driving galactic evolution. The project revealed over 6 million sources, including approximately 150,000 evolved stars and 50,000 young stellar objects. This full list, maintained by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and last updated in March 2026, contains all extracted sources, including potential spurious ones.
Use Cases
Search for potential counterparts to known astronomical sources based on the full extraction list.
Study the life cycle of observable matter and galaxy evolution based on the survey's stated goal.
Analyze the population of evolved stars and young stellar objects mentioned in the description.
Investigate the diffuse interstellar medium with column densities greater than 1.2×10^21 cm^-2.
Strengths
Contains over 6 million sources extracted from the Spitzer Space Telescope mosaics.
Includes approximately 150,000 evolved stars and 50,000 young stellar objects.
Sources were filtered with specific criteria, including a signal-to-noise value >5 and point-like correlation thresholds.
Limitations
The full list contains spurious sources, as noted in the description.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
