Description
Monthly average vegetation and precipitation indices for the Sahel region, categorized by country, department, and municipality. The dataset includes Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index (ARVI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) values. It was produced by Acción contra el hambre - GIS4tech for the PREDISAN project and was last updated in April 2026.
Use Cases
Correlate monthly Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI3) values with Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) to model crop stress.
Analyze trends in Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) by department over time to assess vegetation health.
Use Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index (ARVI) and Structure Insensitive Pigment Index (SIPI) to monitor specific crop pigment characteristics.
Compare short-term SPI1 impacts with medium-term SPI12 impacts on vegetation activity at the municipality level.
Build models to predict future vegetation indices based on historical SPI6 and SPI9 precipitation data.
Strengths
Includes multiple standardized indices (ARVI, NDVI, EVI, SIPI, SPI1-12) for cross-analysis.
Data is temporally structured with monthly averages and categorized by administrative levels (country, department, municipality).
Limitations
Specific row count, geographic extent, and temporal range are unknown.
Data granularity is limited to monthly averages, not daily or higher frequency.
