27 patients with a mean age of 66.4 years underwent salvage total laryngectomy after failed radiotherapy between 2000 and 2017. The retrospective study by Ricardo González-Orús Álvarez-Morujo compares fistula rates between primary closure and pectoralis major flap closure groups. Results show a global pharyngocutaneous fistula rate of 55.5%, with significantly higher rates in the non-flap group (78.6% vs 30.8%).
