Antarctic datasets from Bechervaise Island, Magnetic Island, Shirley Island, Edmonson Point, and the Dumont D'Urville area contain satellite tracking data for Adelie Penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae). The data was collected to determine the foraging locations of the penguins. This work was completed as part of the ASAC project 2205, 'Adelie penguin research and monitoring in support of the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Project'.
Use Cases
- Modeling penguin foraging ranges and habitat use based on satellite fixes.
- Analyzing movement patterns and site fidelity across multiple Antarctic locations.
- Supporting ecosystem monitoring and management decisions for CCAMLR.
- Studying the impact of environmental changes on Adelie Penguin behavior.
Strengths
- Data covers multiple specific Antarctic locations: Bechervaise Island, Magnetic Island, Shirley Island, Edmonson Point, and Dumont D'Urville.
- Explicitly linked to a formal research project (ASAC_2205) supporting the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Project.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count, file formats, and sample data are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
