Description
School Learning Modalities, 2021-2022 provides weekly estimates of learning modality (in-person, remote, or hybrid) for U.S. K-12 public and independent charter school districts. The dataset was modeled by combining data from Burbio, MCH Strategic Data, the AEI/Return to Learn Tracker, and state dashboards using a Hidden Markov model. It covers the period from August 2021 to December 2022, with district metadata sourced from the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES).
Use Cases
Analyze temporal trends in learning modality (Learning Modality, Week) across different states (State) or cities (City).
Correlate district characteristics like Student Count or Operational Schools with the prevalence of remote or hybrid learning (Learning Modality).
Model the spread of in-person instruction (Learning Modality) over time (Week) using geospatial identifiers like ZIP Code or District NCES ID.
Strengths
Weekly granularity from August 2021 to December 2022 provides detailed temporal coverage.
Model integrates data from four distinct sources (Burbio, MCH, AEI, state dashboards) to infer estimates.
Includes key district metadata such as Student Count, Operational Schools, and NCES ID for linkage.
Limitations
Data are model estimates and are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate, particularly where source data were unavailable.
Row count and total size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale processing.
Last updated metadata is from 2024-06-28; the underlying data's freshness for current analysis should be verified.
Provenance
