Description
The Australian continental Exclusive Economic Zone, including waters around Tasmania, is covered by this spatially continuous raster dataset. It provides seabed gravel content, expressed as a weight percentage from 0 to 100%, at a 0.01 decimal degree resolution. This dataset supersedes previous predictions with improved accuracy and was made available by the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed habitat suitability based on sediment gravel content.
Conducting regional resource assessments for marine aggregates based on gravel distribution.
Planning marine infrastructure projects based on seabed substrate characteristics.
Analyzing sediment transport patterns at a continental scale.
Strengths
Spatially continuous coverage of the Australian continental EEZ at 0.01 decimal degree resolution.
Supersedes previous predictions with demonstrated improvements in accuracy.
Provides a specific measurement (weight percentage) ranging from 0 to 100%.
Limitations
Contains artefacts in regions with insufficient underlying sample data.
May not be appropriate for local-scale analysis where sample density is low.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Predicted from underlying sample data, presented as a raster.

Geography
Australian continental Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), including seabed surrounding Tasmania. Excludes territories like Norfolk Island, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Heard and McDonald Islands, and the Australian Antarctic Territory.
File is distributed in ZIP format; a GIS tool is required to use the raster data.
