Description
2014 spatially continuous data of seabed gravel, mud, and sand content expressed as weight percentages from 0 to 100%. The dataset covers the Browse region in the Australian continental Exclusive Economic Zone and is presented in 0.0025 decimal degree resolution raster grids and ASCII text files. This dataset supersedes previous predictions with demonstrated improvements in accuracy, though accuracy varies based on underlying data density and seabed complexity.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed sediment distribution based on gravel, mud, and sand percentage data.
Conducting basin-scale geological analysis based on the high-resolution raster grids.
Identifying areas requiring additional sampling based on described artifacts from insufficient samples.
Updating sediment distribution predictions for the Browse region based on the superseded previous data.
Strengths
Supersedes previous predictions with demonstrated improvements in accuracy.
Provides data at a 0.0025 decimal degree resolution.
Covers three sediment fractions (gravel, mud, sand) as weight percentages.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Accuracy varies and artifacts occur in areas with insufficient sample density.
Intended for basin-scale use and may not be appropriate for smaller-scale analysis in undersampled areas.
