Description
Australian seabed mud content data, expressed as a weight percentage from 0 to 100%, is provided in a 0.01 decimal degree resolution raster format. The dataset covers the continental Exclusive Economic Zone, including around Tasmania, but excludes several remote island territories. It was produced by the Australian Ocean Data Network and supersedes previous predictions with improved accuracy.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed habitat suitability based on sediment mud content.
Regional environmental impact assessments based on continuous sediment fraction data.
Validating oceanographic models using spatially continuous seabed property data.
Strengths
Spatially continuous raster data at 0.01 decimal degree resolution.
Supersedes previous predictions with demonstrated improvements in accuracy.
Covers the Australian continental EEZ, including seabed surrounding Tasmania.
Limitations
Contains artefacts in regions with insufficient underlying samples.
May not be appropriate for local-scale analysis where sample density is low.
Excludes areas surrounding Macquarie Island and several other Australian territories.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
